A new Australian Government service centre within Datacom's customer care and IT Hub in Modbury, South Australia, was officially opened today by the Federal Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs Alan Tudge and South Australia’s Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment David Ridgway.

The service centre opening is part of today's launch of global IT Services company Datacom’s facility in Adelaide’s northern suburbs. The Australian Government service will service local and overseas callers about visa, citizenship and travel or trade enquiries.

This transition will enable Home Affairs staff to focus on high-value, complex decision-making across immigration, citizenship and trade facilitation programs.

The Conservative Party opposes Australia signing up to the international pact which would weaken our sovereignty and relinquish significant control of Australia's borders over to unelected and unaccountable United Nations bureaucrats.

The debate over the UN migration pact comes as Sunday 29 July marks the 10th anniversary of the Rudd government dismantling the successful Howard government 'Pacific Solution', commemorated with the Conservative Party's Action Plan.

The key UN migration agency involved in the pact said it was yet to be told of a change in the government’s position since Australia helped negotiate the deal.

A 61-year-old Australian man who was travelling from Melbourne to the Philippines on Wednesday 25 July has been arrested and charged after he was found with child exploitation material on his mobile phone.

Australian Border Force (ABF) officers stopped the man before his departure, as he was suspected of purchasing online child exploitation material from the Philippines. Director of Migration Statistics at the ABS Myles Burleigh said that the number of people moving interstate was the highest in 13 years, and the number of arrivals of overseas migrants was the highest on record.

"However, factoring in departures, in net terms overseas migration was 262,000, which is below the record high of 300,000 in 2008-09", Mr Burleigh said.

Of the 539,000 people who migrated to Australia in 2016-17, 315,000 arrived on a temporary visa, including just over 150,000 international students, just over 50,000 working holiday makers, and 32,000 workers on temporary skill visas.
