Suppose a person has had their visa cancelled on character grounds.

Suppose further that the person is owed protection obligations under the Refugees Convention, and therefore cannot be returned to his home country, or removed to a third country?

Is the person doomed to a period of indefinite detention?

I had the pleasure of attending the Migration Institute of Australia (MIA) EGM today and I am pleased to report to the proxies who entrusted me with their vote that each of the four motions were lost. Lost by the MIA.  Won by us.  I have no doubt that the 149 proxies given to me made a real difference in the EGM.

Over the past 12 months there has been substantial increase in compliance and monitoring exercises conducted by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection.  A monitoring exercise conducted by the Department is not just limited to business sponsors, individual visa holders are also being targeted.
