A recent decision of the Federal Court constituted by His Honour Rares J has found that when the Minister purports to exercise powers under section 501 and fails to give consideration to the non-refoulment obligations that purported decision is invalid.

On 7 January 2020, Liana Allan, Founder of Migration Alliance participated in a round-table consultation which took place in Melbourne, hosted by the Department of Home Affairs. The round-table discussion was regarding the 2020-21 Migration Program.
Both Home Affairs and Migration Alliance appreciated the discussion generated, plus the views and ideas that other participants you were able to provide. The discussion was useful for sharing perspectives across the range of stakeholders represented.
Migration Alliance has requested that the discussion paper be made available to our members and we await feedback on that request.
