Migration Alliance has received the following message from the AAT.  We are able to extend this expression of interest to our members:

Expressions of interest are now open for the Administrative Appeals Tribunal’s (AAT) annual migration and refugee stakeholder forums. Deputy President Jan Redfern PSM will chair the forums in five locations across Australia. They will also feature presentations from other senior representatives of the AAT and the Immigration Assessment Authority (IAA). 

These forums are a great opportunity for professionals with an interest in the migration and refugee area to come together to receive updates from the AAT and discuss caseload issues. They will be particularly useful for those who support applicants in the Migration and Refugee Division, the IAA and in relevant matters before the General Division.

A Bill for and Act to amend the Australian Citizenship Act 2007, and for related purposes.

In 2015, the current terrorism-related citizenship loss provisions were included in the Australian Citizenship Act because of the threat that foreign terrorist fighters presented to Australia and its interests.

These provisions have helped protect the Australian community and ensure Australian citizenship remains compatible with the shared values of the Australian community.

Notwithstanding, around 80 Australians of counter-terrorism interest are believed to be still in Syria and Iraq, some of whom may seek to return to Australia.

The Instrument operates to specify the approved forms for making a valid application for a Business Skills Business Talent (Permanent) (Class EA) visa; Business Skills (Permanent) (Class EC) visa; Business Skills (Provisional) (Class EB) visa; Business Skills (Residence) (Class DF) visa; Distinguished Talent (Migrant) (Class AL) visa; Distinguished Talent (Residence) (Class BX) visa; and Business Skills (Provisional) (Class UR) visa. The Instrument further operates to specify the place for lodgement and the manner in which an application must be made to ensure a valid application is made for the relevant visa class.

The purpose of the Instrument is to specify the manner in which a Distinguished Talent (Migrant) (Class AL) visa application can be made. In addition to the existing arrangements of lodging an application by post or courier service delivery, the added option, which provides an additional benefit to applicants, is an applicant can lodge an application through the Department of Home Affairs online lodgement portal at the following address: https://immi.homeaffairs.com.au/global-talent-contact-form.
