The TOEFL Test Advantage

For over 50 years, the TOEFL test has been the world’s premier English-language test. It is accepted by more than 10,000 organisations in 130 countries. More than 35 million people have taken the world’s leading computer-based academic English test.

The TOEFL iBT test measures the 4 core language skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing. Test takers are required to combine multiple skills to summarise, evaluate and synthesise information. TOEFL scores are fair because they are backed by unparalleled research and ETS’s commitment to quality and validity.

Every university and leading professional bodies in Australia accept TOEFL scores.

Test Centres

The TOEFL iBT test is the most accessible English-language proficiency test, delivered at more than 4000 test centres in more than 165 countries.

The test can be taken at test centres across Australia, including centres in Adelaide, Brisbane, Jimboomba, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney — and more are planned. Find a location near you at www.ets.org/toefl/register.

Scores and Score Reporting

Each of the 4 test sections is scored on a scale from 0-30, for a total score of 0-120. TOEFL iBT scores are released quickly; test takers can view their scores online within 10 days of the test.

The TOEFL test offers the fairest, most unbiased and objective scoring.  Scoring of the speaking and writing sections use human scorers. No scoring takes place at TOEFL iBT test centres. All scoring is reviewed by multiple markers who do not know the test takers’ identities to support security and ensure consistency. This anonymity allows for a fairer review, compared to other tests that use face-to-face interviews by a single marker, which can introduce bias.

ETS provides a wealth of tools and resources to prepare for the TOEFL test including:
