As reported earlier, Department of Home Affairs ceased to issue ETA visas in wake of COVID19.
The Department of Home Affairs has re-commended issuing ETA visas via a mobile app.
To make a new application, an applicant needs to download the Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) mobile app (Australian ETA) for some ETA-eligible passport holders while the travel restrictions are in place.
Applicants can apply for an ETA through the app if:
- you meet all ETA eligibility requirements and
- you hold a passport from Brunei, Canada, Hong Kong (SAR of China), Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea or the United States of America.
Before a person can travel on an ETA, they must also be exempt from Australia's travel restrictions.
Grant of an ETA through the app does not mean a person have been considered for or granted an exemption to travel to Australia. A person will still need to apply for a travel exemption and provide evidence to support any claims.
As per the previous arrangements Australian ETA app incurs a non-refundable service fee of $20.
