Northern Territory has updated their government website to advise that changes to the nomination requirement are expected to come into force from 1 July 2020.   At present, Northern Territory is not processing any offshore nominations lodged on or after 24 March 2020 until further notice.

Eligibility Summary Criteria

At the time of nomination, the applicant must be:

-        Under 45 years of age

-        Have a valid skills assessment for the relevant occupation they are being nominated under

-        Meet the minimum English language requirement as Competent (which is equivalent to IELTS 6.0 in each band) – note this is the NT nomination requirement, applicants may be required to meet a different minimum English language requirement for the purpose of skills assessment

-        Have points of 65 or higher on the points test

Residency requirement

-        As mentioned earlier, off-shore applications lodged on or after 24 March will not be considered

-        Interstate nominations will not be considered (this is extended to dependant applicants)

-        The applicant must reside in NT at the time of nomination application

Immigration Status

-        Student visa holders currently studying at a NT institution will not be eligible for NT nomination

-        Those who have been nominated for subclass 489/491 visa will not be eligible for 190 nomination

Post Approval Process

Once approved, it is expected that the applicant will live and work in their skilled occupation for at least three years. In addition, throughout the three year monitoring period, it is expected that the applicant (or visa holder) participates in surveys conducted by NT government and provides current contract details as appropriate.
