I had the pleasure of attending the Migration Institute of Australia (MIA) EGM today and I am pleased to report to the proxies who entrusted me with their vote that each of the four motions were lost. Lost by the MIA.  Won by us.  I have no doubt that the 149 proxies given to me made a real difference in the EGM.

Here are the results:

Clearly Migration Alliance has the hearts and minds of MIA members.

As an aside I heard Angela Chan say words to the effect that MIA had 1000 voting members, which was what I understood to be her comments, and having regard to what was subsequently said by Kevin Lane, it was obvious that of the 2000 claimed members (by the MIA), that approximately 50% of the total membership claimed are non-voting or associate members.

What this means in practical terms is that the focus of the MIA is on future members and that their almost exclusive access to students studying law and doing the Graduate Certificate is the key to any future growth of the MIA.

This is in direct contrast to the verifiable 4700+ Migration Alliance members who account for the vast majority of RMAs in the profession.

Just prior to the meeting the president of the MIA said to Liana Allan that she is having an Aston Martin delivered, and went on to say, 'do you think I care about this sh*t?'.    Again during the meeting the president of the MIA made mention of her new Aston Martin and rudely demeaned various members for driving a Holden.

Reeesult!
